Meta’s Muse AI Assistant Arrives on Mac With Computer Control Features

Meta’s Muse AI assistant is now available on Mac, letting users connect files, apps, and services and manage actions with approval controls.

Meta’s Muse AI assistant is now available on Mac, expanding the company’s push into consumer-facing AI agents that can interact with applications and help users complete tasks across their devices.

The desktop version of Muse lets users connect the AI assistant to files, messages, calendars, notes, and mail in native Mac apps. Meta says users can control which information Muse can access, and the app requires approval before performing sensitive actions.

The Mac launch follows Muse’s mobile and web release earlier this month. The app quickly gained attention, reaching the top of the U.S. App Store charts after launch, according to its rankings.

AI Agents Move From Chat to Computer Actions

Meta announced the Mac release in a post on X, highlighting Muse’s expansion beyond mobile devices.

The launch comes as technology companies compete to build AI agents that can perform actions rather than only answer questions. These systems are increasingly being viewed as a new way for users to interact with software and digital services.

The growth of AI agents has raised questions about the future of traditional applications and software businesses. Some analysts have examined how AI could reshape the app ecosystem, while reports have also explored the impact of AI tools on software companies.

Competition Among Consumer AI Assistants

Meta is competing with a growing number of companies developing consumer AI agents. Other startups are also building assistants designed to operate through everyday communication channels, including Instinct, which has reportedly discussed funding at a multibillion-dollar valuation.

As competition increases, companies are moving quickly to add new capabilities. Meta and other AI assistant developers are testing features such as voice interactions and broader computer control options.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a post on X that the Muse team is continuing to ship new features quickly.

With Muse now available on Mac, Meta is positioning the assistant as a tool that can work across personal devices while giving users control over access and approvals.
