TikTok Launches AI Shopping Assistant and One-Click Checkout

TikTok is launching an AI shopping assistant and one-click Buy Direct checkout, letting users discover products and purchase from brands without leaving the app.

TikTok is rolling out an AI shopping assistant and a new one-click checkout feature as it moves more of the shopping journey into its app.

According to TikTok’s announcement, the Shopping Assistant is a conversational AI tool that can understand context, remember preferences and answer questions about product details, shipping, sizing, availability and purchases.

TikTok wants shopping to happen without leaving the app

The company is also launching Buy Direct, a checkout option that lets users purchase from brands with one click from the For You feed. TikTok is trying to combine product discovery, shopping guidance and payment into a single in-app experience.

The move could help TikTok capture more value from purchases that begin with videos while reducing the need for users to leave the platform for product research or checkout.

The new features expand TikTok’s e-commerce strategy

TikTok Shop remains central to the company’s commerce business, but the new tools bring shopping more directly into the wider app. TikTok says the features are being built with commerce and payment partners including Salesforce, Shopify, Shoplazza and Stripe.

What the rollout means for users and brands

For users, shopping may become faster and more impulse-driven: they can see a product, ask the AI assistant questions and move directly to checkout. For brands, the update creates another way to convert attention into sales without sending customers outside TikTok.

In TikTok’s latest Economic Impact Report, the company said activity on the platform supported $81 billion in U.S. GDP. At the same time, tens of millions of Americans reported buying a product after watching a TikTok video.

The combination of AI shopping guidance and one-click checkout shows TikTok moving beyond product discovery toward a more complete in-app commerce experience.
