Spotify on iOS 27 Lets Siri Play Music Without Saying ‘On Spotify’

Spotify lets eligible iOS 27 users ask Siri to play music, podcasts and audiobooks without saying ‘on Spotify,’ using learned preferences for app selection.

Spotify users running iOS 27 can now ask Siri to play music, podcasts and audiobooks without adding “on Spotify” to their voice commands. Apple’s assistant can learn a user’s preferred streaming service and automatically direct playback requests to it.

The update removes the need to name the app when requesting songs, albums or other audio content. Users can also make broader requests, such as “play workout music”, or access personalised features with commands like “play my DJ”

Siri supports additional functions, including personalised recommendations, podcast playback, library searches and creating AI-powered Prompted Playlists through voice instructions.

Siri learns a user’s preferred audio app through their listening habits. For example, if someone regularly uses Spotify for music or podcasts, Siri can recognise that preference and automatically choose the service for future requests, even when the user omits the name.

The feature is available globally outside the European Union on iPhone 15 Pro and newer supported models running iOS 27, with Apple Intelligence enabled in Settings.
